Make the switch control the lamp
prediction
Find yesterday’s idea in a new layout
Trace the conducting path before choosing. This circuit is arranged differently from Monday’s.
0 complete paths. Lamp A is off. Source current 0 amperes.
- Path
- 0 complete paths
- Source current
- 0 A
- Equivalent resistance
- Not shown — open circuit
- Lamp A
- OFF · 0 A · 0 W
- Lamp B

Hint 1: Start at either source terminal and follow the wire.
Hint 2: Check whether the conducting path reaches the lamp and returns to the other terminal.
Hint 3: The visible interruption opens the circuit’s only current path.
explanation
A switch controls the circuit
Read the short worked idea, then use it in the circuit.
A closed switch joins its contacts and completes the circuit. An open switch separates the contacts and interrupts the current path, so steady current through this one-loop circuit stops.
The source supplies electrical energy. The switch controls the connection; it does not create the supply. Current is charge flow around the complete circuit, and the lamp is the load where energy is transferred.
- Source
- Supplies electrical energy to this virtual circuit.
- Conductor
- Provides a conducting path between components.
- Switch
- Opens or closes the circuit’s current path.
- Load
- Transfers electrical energy; the lamp is the load here.
check
Choose switch positions
Select every marked position that is in the lamp’s one current path.
circuit
Close the switch
Use the switch control, then check whether the circuit is complete.
Use these buttons with touch, a mouse or the keyboard. No dragging is needed.
0 complete paths. Lamp A is off. Source current 0 amperes.
- Path
- 0 complete paths
- Source current
- 0 A
- Equivalent resistance
- Not shown — open circuit
- Lamp A
- OFF · 0 A · 0 W
- Lamp B

Hint 1: The angled switch contact shows that the circuit is open.
Hint 2: Choose “Close the switch” to join the contacts.

Two-minute movement break
Pause the screen task for a moment.
Stand up, stretch or get a drink. Return when you are ready; there is no countdown.
prediction
Predict before opening it
The switch is closed and the lamp is on. Predict the result before testing it.
1 complete path. Lamp A is on. Source current 1 amperes.
- Path
- 1 complete path
- Source current
- 1 A
- Equivalent resistance
- 12 Ω
- Lamp A
- ON · 1 A · 12 W
- Lamp B
- · ·
Hint 1: There is only one current path in this circuit.
Hint 2: Opening the switch separates its contacts inside that path.
Hint 3: An open switch interrupts the loop, so steady current stops.
circuit
Test your switch prediction
Open the working switch, then check the circuit reading and lamp state.
Use these buttons with touch, a mouse or the keyboard. No dragging is needed.

- Path
- 1 complete path
- Source current
- 1 A
- Equivalent resistance
- 12 Ω
- Lamp A
- ON · 1 A · 12 W
- Lamp B

Hint 1: Choose the control that separates the switch contacts.
Hint 2: Open the switch, then check the source current.
explanation
Components and schematic symbols
Compare each component view with the symbol used on a circuit diagram.
A schematic shows electrical connections rather than the physical shape or position of each component. The source, wire, switch and lamp below keep the same jobs when shown as symbols.
This is a virtual DC model. An open switch or dark lamp does not prove real equipment is safely isolated; leave real wiring alone and obtain competent help.
check
Read a fresh switch drawing
Trace the changed drawing rather than relying on the switch’s screen position.
